Future Work

Continuing work on Worthington Glacier includes further refinement of the existing data set, model testing, and collection of new field data. Specific projects include:

  • Detailed testing and comparison of numerical models for glacier flow with the Worthington Glacier data set.
  • Measurement of the in-situ stress field in Worthington Glacier. A major part of this project is the development of new instrumentation for stress measurement in ice.
  • Further study of the influence of crevassing on glacier motion.
  • Investigation of short wavelength variations in the character of the bed using a dense grid of boreholes and repeat video observations.
  • Further experimentation with new techniques for the collection and processing of radio-echo sounding data.
